Sightseeing, day excursions for culture and nature lovers

Thanks to the central location, the village of San Lorenzo is the perfect starting point for exciting excursions.
Brunico, the main town of the Val Pusteria, invites you to a romantic walk through the town centre, where you will find many shops and stores with Italian fashion, Tirolean fine-art craft and a wide range of excellence bars and restaurants.

Museums:

The Folklore Museum of Dietenheim: get to know how the people used to live around this area long time ago. In the open-air part of the museum is shown the traditional way of living of the South Tyrolean mountain farmers from the 15th to the 18th century.
The Mining Museum of Prettau: galleries, documents and other found things revive the history of the mining in Valle Aurina. Many castles, like for example the Castle Bruneck, the Castle Ehrenburg, the Castle Sonnenburg and the Castle Taufers report about historical occurrences.

Excursions for culture lovers:

Going past Bressanone and Chiusa, after 1 hour of driving, you will reach Bolzano, the capital town of South Tyrol. Bolzano is a town, which was and is strongly influenced by the Italian and German culture. Take a stroll through the arcades, watch the hustle and bustle on the fruit and vegetable market and visit the Archeological museum: on 1200 qm there are shown archaeological finds from the Stone Age up to the early Middle Ages. The most famous object is surely the man in ice, called “Ötzi”.

To Venice: going past Cortina, Cadore Lago S. Croce, Treviso and Mestre, after 3,5 hours of driving, you will reach the magnificient lagoon city of Venice. World most famous buildings, like for example the Dogen Palace, the Rialto Bridge are awaiting you. Take a ride in one of the traditional gondolas and explore the many fantastic sights of Venice.

Excursions for nature lovers:

Valle Aurina: behind Campo Tures (20 minutes) begins the Valle Aurina, one of the most rural valleys of South Tyrol. If following the road to the end of the valley or taking an excursion into the side valleys, constantly you will come past fascinating glaciers lying within one’s grasp.

Wild lake of Praies: (Natural Park of Fanes, Sennes, Praies) Reach this natural miracle in approximately half a hour of drive in direction to Villabassa. Embedded between rugged rock faces lies the wild lake of Praies, with its cristal clear water. The walk around the lake is definitely a must do.

Pederü: (Natural Park of Fanes, Sennes, Praies) Going on the bendy road of Gardena you will get to San Vigilio and from there further on to Pederü (ca. 45 minutes). Steep, pale mountain faces build the end of the valley, from where some wonderful hikes are waiting for you. The alpine pastures and mountain inns can also be reached by some shuttle Jeep taxis.

Big Dolomite Tour: this 1 day tour takes you past Dobbiaco, past the 3 Cime and to Misurina until you reach Cortina. From there you get over the Passo Falzarego to the place called Arabba. Further you go over the Pordoijoch and the Sellajoch to the Val Gardena. Going out of the valley you reach the small town of Chiusa, from where you follow the signs in direction of Bressanone and Brunico.

Excursion to the Lake Garda: going past Bressanone, Bolzano, Trentino and Rovereto, after 2 hours of driving, you will reach Torbole, the surfing paradise of northern Italy. Continue your trip around the lake on the panoramic road called “Gardesana”, and stop at the picturesque places like Malcesine and Limone.
